Mauricio Mancio

Ph.D. in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, with a major in Structural Materials and minors in Applied Geophysics and Materials Science & Engineering. Currently Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Unisinos University, Brazil, and Head of the Graduate Program in Civil Engineering.

Over the last twenty years, Prof. Mancio has worked on several research projects focused on the development of more durable and environmentally-friendly construction materials, based on a comprehensive multi-scale approach ranging from the nano to the macro scale, from fundamental concepts to practical applications, with strong interaction between academia and industry partners, including international projects in partnership with Caltrans (California Department of Transportation), NSF (National Science Foundation), Calstar Technologies (Silicon Valley), Calera Corp (Silicon Valley), MMFX Technologies Inc (Los Angeles), KAUST (Saudi Arabia), C2CPII (Netherlands), GEOBRUGG (Switzerland), Fulbright (USA), ETH Zurich (Switzerland), in addition to projects sponsored by all main Brazilian funding agencies (including FINEP, CAPES, CNPq and Fapergs) and with several partner companies. Member and faculty advisor (MS and PhD) in the Materials Research Group in the CE Graduate Program. Member of the Unisinos Steering Board of the Brazil-United States program on Modernization of Engineering Education. Founding member and faculty advisor of the local Engineers Without Borders (EWB) student chapter at Unisinos.
