Paulo Artaxo

Full professor at the Physics Institute of the University of São Paulo (USP) and coordinator of the Center for Sustainable Amazon Studies (CEAS) at USP. His research area includes physics applied to environmental issues, with his work being carried out mainly on issues relating to global climate change, the environment in the Amazon, atmospheric pollution, and related topics. He is a member of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo (ACIESP). He is the Vice President of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC) and the President of the Scientific Council of the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM). He is also a member of the Brazilian Council for Science and Technology (CNCT), the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) and other institutions. He has received a number of awards and distinctions throughout his career, including: Scientific Applause Mention from Brazil’s Federal Senate, for research in the Amazon (2004), TWAS Award for Earth Sciences (2007), title of Commander of the National Order of Scientific Merit (2010), Admiral Álvaro Alberto Award (2016), and CONFAP Science and Technology Award (2021). He is on the select list of the most cited researchers in the world in the last 10 years, according to Clarivate Analytics.
