Vanderley M John

Holder of a degree in Civil Engineering. He is a full professor of construction materials and components at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (USP), director of the Brazilian Council on Sustainable Construction (CBCS), coordinator of the EMBRAPII CICS/POLI/USP unit and hubIC, a cooperative innovation environment maintained by USP in partnership with the Brazilian Portland Cement Association (ABCP) and the Brazilian Cement Industry Union (SNIC).
He has over 30 years of experience in research focusing on scalable low-carbon and low-cost solutions, particularly for the cement value chain. He is the co-author of the report “Eco-efficient cements” (UN), the book “O desafio da sustentabilidade na construção civil” (“The challenge of sustainability in construction”) (Ed. Blucher), and over 100 articles in indexed journals.
His main research interest is in low-carbon cement systems produced by replacing clinker, a topic on which he collaborates with academia, government, and industry in Brazil and abroad. He is also dedicated to developing simple and practical tools to assist the industry, government and design professionals in incorporating environmental parameters into their decision-making process, as well as being the creator and coordinator of SIDAC (www.sidac.org.br).
