The main event for the cement and construction production value chains took place in 2023. It was the Brazilian Conference on Cement (CBCi), held on November 6-8, at the Renaissance Hotel São Paulo.
While previous editions had greater emphasis on cement manufacturing technology, this time, CBCi brought together – in addition to technical staff and experts from Brazil and abroad – the government, including its authorities and members of Congress, economists, and business leaders from other sectors that also integrated into the construction production chain.
Thus, the debates that have an unequivocal impact the quality of life of society and in the socioeconomic development of the country were expanded, aiming to meet needs related to housing, urbanization, and transportation logistics.
“The Conference highlighted the new and definitive paths of the construction production chain, which inevitably involve reforms and public policies that impact the entire segment and topics such as decarbonization, legislation, and environmental aspects, such as the circularity of waste and the reduction of CO₂ emissions, the use of alternative fuels, sustainability, productivity, and technological innovation in the production and application of cement and its construction systems in the housing and infrastructure areas,” noted Paulo Camillo Penna, President of the Brazilian Portland Cement Association (ABCP) and Brazilian Cement Industry Union.
Rough300 conference attendees participated in the event, being able to watch major and important international experts such as Arnaud Pinatel (formerly of BNP Paribas and currently Head of On-Field Research Investments, England), at the opening of the meeting, as well as Brazilian ministers and secretaries of state and renowned Brazilian and international economists, who discussed the current, future and global needs of the construction sector and segment. CBCi was also attended by leading names in the sector, such as Thomas Guillot, Chief Executive of the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA), and , Maria Jose Garcia Jaramillo, Executive Director of the Inter-American Cement Federation (FICEM), which brings together 27 Latin American countries, as well as Portugal and Spain.
